The physical “book of life,” DNA, is only a hint of the book of life which is invisible. There is so much more written we do not see.

Jesus showed the visible so that his listeners and observers could know about the invisible. See Mark 2:10; Luke 5:24, and Matthew 9:6 for example

“But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic— “Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” Matthew 9:6 ESV

So that we could know what was true in the spiritual world, Jesus did something in the physical world we could see. His purpose in coming into the world was to draw our attention to the spiritual world and tell us the truth about it, (see for example John 18:36-37). He healed a paralytic so we would know he could do something we couldn’t see, forgive our sins. He died and rose from the dead so we would know we can have eternal life if we follow Him.

There is a “book of life” of which God has some kind of master copy we cannot see at this time, Revelation 3:5, 13:8, 17:8, 21:27 and 20:15; Luke 10:20; Hebrews 12:22-23; Daniel 12:1; Philippians 4:3; Exodus 32:31-33; Malachi 3:16; Psalm 56:8, 69:28 and 139:16. This book is written in, and in some sense is being written in (not visible to us now in our 4 dimensional bound existence) “eternity”.

When Jesus said to Pilot “my kingdom is not of this world”, he did not mean it has nothing to do with this physical time based (verses timeless or infinite time) world, but that it is governed by laws we don’t see. We can see the effects, however, like we see the impact of the wind, though the wind is invisible to the naked eye. The impact of the invisible world is a changed heart (which by the way we cannot “see” – a “heart” of a person, only the manifestations in actions).

The physical book of life, DNA, is given to us and we have physical life. The invisible book is eternal. Being written in this book is not guaranteed because we live physically, physically enabled by a genetic code every day of our life. It is given to us only by another birth, another conception, which is not visible to the microscope or the physical eye. This is what Jesus is talking about to Nicodemus in John 3, that you must also be born “again” in a different sense, from The Spirit of God, to “enter the kingdom of heaven.” This is the kingdom he talked about in John 18:36-37.

One day the DNA and the physical life God created (and is now broken by our sin, our choices, since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden) will merge with and be transformed by, and become a part of the invisible kingdom. Revelation 11:15
“…there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign ” for ever and ever.”

But everyone is not written into that kingdom. Nobody chooses where or when or how he/she will be physically born. When I celebrate my birthday, I should really be celebrating God for making it possible, inventing and making the DNA and the entire body of Adam, then Eve. In a sense I was the product of someone else’s will (my mom and dad deciding to have a baby partly, but also God’s). “I” had nothing to do with it.

The kingdom of heaven requires a choice, my choice and God’s choice. God is offering, but I have to accept, and I have to surrender (this is what being in a “kingdom” is all about). Not my will, but your will be done, as Jesus constantly said to the Father, as an example for us to follow, if we would have eternal life.

So what is your choice? Do you want to be written in THAT book? You can, but it will cost you everything – giving the reigns of your life over to the King in that “world” in which Jesus is King and gives the directions, not you. What you will find there cannot even be described by the “language” we have now. That book is so much more than we can even imagine looking at DNA’s book. 1 Corinthians 2:9: However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him

Do you want to love Him? In order to love Him, first you have to know Him, and he came into this physical world, and gave us a book, the “Bible” in order that we may know Him (1 John 5:13). If so, what are YOU waiting for?
